Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Microplane Coarse Grater

Customer Review: Excellent Quality... A Must
Summary: 5 Stars

This microplaner is still sharp after two years of use on hard chocolate, oranges, lemons, cheese... It is great quality and a must in the kitchen.

Customer Review: I sold my soul for a microplaner (well, almost!)
Summary: 5 Stars

I cannot say enough good things about this little gem of a grater. These microplaners were originally designed as carpentry tools, and apparently, some carpenter's wife (thank goodness!) must have pinched one to use in the kitchen. This is a seriously sturdy grater and makes easy work of most grating jobs. I have had problems with other graters that crack and come away from the plastic that most of them are affixed to. This one is attached to, well, I'm not sure what,I'm not an expert, but however it is made, it looks exactly like the day I bought it about three years ago. I am also impressed at the way this grates the mother of all grating tasks - coconut - (don't laugh, if you have not actually grated coconut by hand, it is much harder than it looks). Wash by hand ( remember to scrub in the same direction as you grate) and you will have a little grating friend for life :)

Customer Review: Grating and Zesting Has Never Been Easier!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have always avoided recipes requiring the zest of this or that. And while I love fresh parmigiano reggiano, the knuckle-busting, finger tearing zester/grater that I have been using for years tempered my appetite for it. The Microplane popped up in my list of Recommendations from Amazon and I decided to read the reviews of this product. I was amazed at the nearly unanimous raves about the grater. Suffice it to say, I ordered one. It arrived a few days ago and I have been busy grating cheese and zesting lemons and oranges.

The cheese literally disappears into fluffy mounds and the fruit peel zests into uniform and aromatic bits. The blades are very sharp (I took an earlier reviewer's suggestion and ordered the slider attachment that keeps your fingers away from the blade). You won't have to worry about cleanup either. It rinses right off and there is no residue or food particles left on the blade.

All I can say is 'Why didn't I buy this years ago?' Don't wait! Pick this one up and while you are at it, get the fine grater and the ribbon grater too!

Customer Review: The Rolls-Royce of grating!
Summary: 5 Stars

Try this line of shop-tools-turned-kitchen-utensils, and you'll never go back to el-cheapo graters again. This version does a grate (sorry, had to...) job with larger, firm or soft cheeses, potatoes, etc. The fine version creates the lightest, fluffiest cheese "snowflakes" for pasta. Absolutely highest recommendation.

CAUTION: these are really sharp, so clean with care, or put in the dishwasher.

Customer Review: I LOVE THIS GADGET! A MUST HAVE!
Summary: 5 Stars

I first bought the finer shred microplane with the plastic handle. I thought that was amazing but this is the King of ALL Zesters and cheese graters. Although the description is for course shredding, it actually grates hard cheeses and zests lemons/limes perfectly. I was really impressed by this particular grater b/c it is more ergonomic than the thinner one. It is wider so you can grate more at a time. This is wonderful for a big block of parmesean/romano cheese. This is the best cheese grater that I have used. The other ones that I have tried are Cooks Best which looks similar but never grated or zested properly. It just accummulated alot of junk. It was impossible to clean so it just rusted. Then there are those big clunky tripod cheese graters that take up room and are difficult to clean and dangerous for your knuckles. Like I said, this is the one to get if you want freshly grated cheese with your pasta at dinner. Btw, I have used it for garlic and ginger. It is also awesome for mincing. I hand wash mine out of love. Just get it and try it! It is the ONLY grater/zester that you will need.
