Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Microplane Coarse Grater

Customer Review: I LOVE THIS GADGET! A MUST HAVE!
Summary: 5 Stars

I first bought the finer shred microplane with the plastic handle. I thought that was amazing but this is the King of ALL Zesters and cheese graters. Although the description is for course shredding, it actually grates hard cheeses and zests lemons/limes perfectly. I was really impressed by this particular grater b/c it is more ergonomic than the thinner one. It is wider so you can grate more at a time. This is wonderful for a big block of parmesean/romano cheese. This is the best cheese grater that I have used. The other ones that I have tried are Cooks Best which looks similar but never grated or zested properly. It just accummulated alot of junk. It was impossible to clean so it just rusted. Then there are those big clunky tripod cheese graters that take up room and are difficult to clean and dangerous for your knuckles. Like I said, this is the one to get if you want freshly grated cheese with your pasta at dinner. Btw, I have used it for garlic and ginger. It is also awesome for mincing. I hand wash mine out of love. Just get it and try it! It is the ONLY grater/zester that you will need.

Customer Review: Great, but Cuisipro is even better
Summary: 4 Stars

I own the Microplane zester, but I recently bought a Cuisipro ribbon grater from Williams-Sonoma, which has an even better design. It's pretty much the same, except the Cuisipro has a little rubber "leg" at the top of the plane (in addition to the handle at the other end). So you can rest the grater on a cutting board instead of always having to hold it in the air. At Williams-Sonoma, they have three different Cuisipro graters (zester, course, and ribbon), and the prices are slightly higher, but I find it worth the extra cost.

Customer Review: Best tool ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this due to raves in the customer column and was not disappointed. I am buying another because the first one took up residence at my sister's house and won't come home. For any hard cheeses - parmesan, romano, etc and ginger it is so fast to use, easy to clean. The designers must be great cooks too. Cheese grates into light fluffy piles, guests love it on salads, and atop winter soups and stews. Enjoy

Customer Review: A Great Grater
Summary: 5 Stars

The accolades written by other aficionados regarding the Microplane graters are accurate. Cheese coming from this grater result in fluffy mounds that almost collapse from their own weight and a chunk of aged parmesan is as easy to grate as a block of cheddar.

I purchased a sliding attachment for my Microplane to protect my fingers while grating small items creating a mini mandolin (well, almost). The attachment is not offered by Amazon.com but it does exist and I recommend that item as well.

Next on the purchase list is the Microplane Ribbon Grater so that I can create wide ribbons and grate in both directions. Again, this item is not offered by Amazon.com at this time but I've seen it in a local store.

If you're in the market, Microplane won't disappoint.

Customer Review: Works better than I thought it would!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just love this handy little thing. I love high quality romano cheese and this makes grating it sooooo easy. Also, I use lemon and orange rind in many recipes and it's extremely easy to peel the rind and none of the bitter white membrane comes along.
It's wonderful for grating fresh ginger and I use it for grating solid chocolate on top of my cappucino. It grates it so finely, I don't have to use very much.
