Customer Review: Very fast, very versatile, handle with care

This great little tool migrated to the kitchen from the
workshop. It was originally a rasp to be used in carving
and forming wood. Beautifully sharp little blades cut
quickly and left a fairly smooth finish. It was only
when men started stealing these from their wives'
woodworking shops that it became thought of as a kitchen
tool.
It makes an extremely fine zest for when you don't need
the visual effect of the ribbons from a standard zester.
It will also quickly make parmesan dust to whisk into a
sauce or melt quickly on hot pasta. You can also use it
to reduce a clove of garlic or a carrot to puree. Think of
it as a convenient hand-held food processor.
However. (you knew there had to be a 'however', didn't you?)
Because this was a woodworker's tool, the cutting teeth
weren't designed to be cleaned easily. Cabinet makers don't
worry if the black walnut dust gets into the pine. So either
be extremely scrupulous about getting the garlic out before
you use the microplane for a milder food or buy two and simply
put them in the dishwasher.
Also, be extremely careful about microplaning your own flesh.
This thing cuts quickly and it's very easy to go a bit too far.
Fingertip blood does nothing for your aioli. It's best to hang
this tool on a rack and keep it out of the drawer. I have one
that's used once a week, stored vertically and it still cuts
like new after almost three years.

What can I say about this great little thing that nobody else has? This is a FABULOUS product. One of, if not THE MOST, fabulous I have come across.
Truth be told, I don't have much experience with kitchen gadgets. HOWEVER, this past Mother's Day I made my first ever key lime pie, which, after the fact, I vowed to never do again. After what seemed like HOURS of trying to grate off 3 tsp. of key lime zest, my pathetic little pile amounted to a little less than 1 1/2 tsp. (including the bits of skin and nail that were grated off in the exhaustive process). After buying this little miracle tool, I am ready to take on another key lime pie!
This thing zests off rind so smoothly it doesn't even feel like it's actually doing anything but with just one swipe, there is a small nest of zest so finely grated it looks like it was pureed in a little mini blender.
Using this thing is effortless and, after trying to zest citrus on a regular grater, FUN. I was absolutely GIDDY when I first used this thing. It's just SO easy. I LOVE it! It surpassed my expectations and went above and beyond what I ever thought ANY zester could do. There is NO way anyone could possibly be disappointed with this. You will NOT regret buying this. It's a MUST-have for ANY kitchen.

This is the first time I've actually taken the time to review a product. I love to cook with fresh lemon and lime zest and this little tool just made my life a whole lot easier! You won't believe how much more zest you get off each fruit. Plus, it's way faster and it's fluffier zest. Easy to clean, too. I just wish I would've bought this handy gadget a long time ago! This zester produces very sharply defined grated zest from citrus compared to the pulverized mush from my other zester. It makes super fast work of zesting & grating.
Also works very well for grating fine ribbons of cheese from a chunk of Parmesan cheese.
Cleans easily and sharp - watch your fingers.
